About Paws and Progress

Welcome to Paws and Progress! My specialized approach in occupational therapy integrates animal-assisted therapy to support each client’s unique journey to wellness. Here's how to get started

Doctor’s Referral: Begin by obtaining a referral from your client's primary care physician. Ensure that the referral includes a diagnosis and specifies occupational therapy. Referrals can be faxed to Paws and Progress at 505-581-3310.

Scheduling and Waitlist: Clients will be contacted for scheduling within five business days after receiving the doctor's referral. Each client is scheduled for consistent weekly sessions on the same day and time each week. As a single practitioner, my capacity to take on new clients is limited, and I may have a waitlist for popular session times, such as after school. Established clients receive scheduling priority, and waitlisted clients are onboarded based on the date the referral was received.

Determine Insurance and Billing Information: Understanding your insurance coverage is crucial. Please provide a copy of your insurance card for billing purposes, and your plan will be reviewed to help you understand your coverage before starting the process. I prioritize a seamless and transparent process for all clients.  See our accepted insurance providers page for more details.

Client Portal: Complete the online intake questionnaire and new client packet through the Client Portal. This step gathers essential background information, helping me tailor an evaluation to each client’s needs.

Initial Evaluation: I will contact you within a week of receiving your completed intake questionnaire to schedule an initial evaluation. This comprehensive assessment, involving skilled clinical observation and standardized testing, identifies the need for occupational therapy and helps me understand each client’s strengths and challenges.

Individualized Treatment Plan: Based on the initial evaluation, I will collaborate with you to set specific, measurable goals and develop a personalized treatment plan. This plan targets the client’s unique needs.

Weekly Sessions: Eligible clients engage in weekly sessions scheduled consistently on the same day and time each week. Session frequency and duration are customized to each client, ranging from one-hour individual sessions to 90-minute group sessions. Therapeutic activities are designed to keep the client engaged and progressing.

Family Involvement: I believe in a holistic approach that includes parent participation within sessions for children. Parents and caregivers will receive strategies to support the client’s development in various settings and "homework" or home plans for continuous progress outside therapy sessions.

Regular Assessment and Adjustment: My collaborative approach ensures regular assessment of the client’s progress. I adjust the treatment plan as needed to align with your evolving goals and needs, ensuring that therapy remains effective and impactful.
